OPD Valves
Overfill Prevention Device (OPD) valves are mandatory on all 4 to 40 pound DOT cylinders used in vapor service. Before any propane cylinder is filled with propane, it is inspected to ensure an installed OPD valve exists on the tank.
When filling a propane bottle that has an OPD valve, gas flow will stop automatically if/when overfilling is detected. Contradictorily, using a propane dispensing pump can result in more repairs and overhauls - which can be much more expensive. Overfill prevention valves can be identified by a triangular shaped handwheel at the top of each. The handwheel is tamper-resistant. These cannot be interchanged with cylinders that aren't equipped with the overfill prevention safety mechanism.
Our OPD valves are manufactured according to stringent international standards. They are designed to allow the flow of propane into and out of a bottle when attached to an appropriate hose end connection. ACME threads are clearly visible at the point of connection.
